zonic reveals reasonings behind why dupreeh was replaced with flameZ
The Vitality head coach has offered a more detailed answer on the decision to bench the Danish superstar.
Just one month after lifting the trophy at the Paris Major together with his Vitality teammates in May, it was announced that Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen was to leave the French side.
Instead, Vitality chose to bring in the younger and fresher Shahar “flameZ” Shushan to take over from the winningest player in Major history.
In an interview with Dust2.dk, Vitality head coach and long-time coach for dupreeh, Danny “zonic” Sørensen explains the reasonings behind the surprising decision. Here, zonic reveals that the economy played a noticeable role.
- There are many elements to the decision, and it's certainly not because I think Peter has done poorly. Of course, there's the matter of a new game coming out, and then there's also the financial aspect of it, zonic stated to Dust2.dk, where he continued:
- We have huge talent in flameZ, who is free on the market, and Counter-Strike teams these days have a very hard time making things work financially. There are some budgets that have to be met - it's not like it was just a few years ago. As a trainer, I have to make things work, and sometimes I have to do it for less money, and so then there was a really good opportunity in picking up flameZ.
- You have newer players, where the level difference from tier 1 to tier 2 is smaller than before, and where you can get a player at the same level or with better future prospects, but for far less money, zonic said to Dust2.dk.
Wouldn’t have replaced dupreeh for just any player
In another interview, this time made by Dexerto, Vitality owner Fabien 'Neo' Devide also touches on the recent transfer, where he was asked whether or not they would have stuck to their current roster if they couldn’t get flameZ.
To this, neo said the following.
- I think we would have kept the same players. We were not in a hurry to make a change. It was not our initial plan or our initial thought.
flameZ is making his Vitality debut this Thursday against Evil Geniuses at the newly-started BLAST Premier Fall Groups.
