Heroic and Spirit eliminated from BLAST Spring Groups
Two straight defeats send the two teams down to the Showdown tournament.
It was not a LAN debut to remember for either Heroic's new lineup or for Spirit's new AWP'er Dmitriy "sh1ro" Sokolov, who delivered one of the worst performances in his career on LAN at the BLAST Premier Spring Groups in Copenhagen.
The new Heroic roster must be the most disappointed with the result in the Group Stage, where the Norwegian-owned organization had every opportunity to win their first LAN match against BIG in the second round of Group D. The Germans were on a four-match loss streak before the match, and has hardly had time to recover from the failed RMR qualification, where BIG was eliminated by the overlooked Romanians from Nexus.
In a match that will not go over in history as the most well-played encounter, it came down to overtime on the third map of Anubis to settle the score. Luckily for BIG their new shooting star Karim "Krimbo" Moussa woke up from his 2024 sleep and delivered a good performance to help his team prevail in the midnight brawl that it turned out to be. A 16-14 win on Anubis secured BIG another day in the spotlight in Copenhagen, where they will face Cloud9 in the Consolidation Final of Group D. Cloud9 lost 2-1 in the Upper Final against Virtus.pro, and will fight for a chance for a rematch against BIG.
The day started in Group B, where Team Liquid relatively easily dismantled GamerLegion. The two Canadians Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken and Keith "NAF" Markovic played superbly on Liquid's CT-side. GamerLegion only managed to win five rounds in total as Terrorist during the two maps of Overpass and Mirage. A somewhat disappointing performance from Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski and company who had made an upset win in the first round against FaZe. The two teams will now face each other again after FaZe swiftly eliminated Spirit 13-4, 13-4. Not even superstar AWP'er Dmitry 'sh1ro' Sokolov could prevent the crushing with a poor 0.78 rating.
